Gama Neguma

According to the vision of the President, first you have to build the individual, then the family, then the village and then the country to win the world.
Gama Neguma programme was initiated because President Mahinda Rajapaksa understood the needs of the village. Since the time the President was in the Ministry of Highways he had been promoting Maga Neguma and as President his aim was to provide concrete roads to all villages.
Gama Neguma is not limited to building roads and providing electricity to villages, it is about uplifting the life of every single family in the village. Gama Neguma has a participatory approach and people of the village are involved in developing their own village.
The government has spent Rs. 6.37 billion for development of the rural economy through the Gama Neguma programme in 2010. The expenditure covered the implementation of 32,526 projects in 10,567 Grama Niladhari Divisions throughout the country. The highest number of projects was implemented in the Gampaha district amounting to 4,917 projects at a cost of Rs. 859 Million. These projects were implemented in 919 Grama Niladhari Divisions of the district. Project wise Kurunegala is second highest with 4570 projects implemented at a cost of Rs. 405 Million, covering 1,250 Grama Niladhari Divisions. In terms of investment Galle District occupies the 2nd highest position with 1,861 projects implemented at a cost of Rs. 425 Million covering 650 Grama Niladhari Divisions.

Divi Neguma

The programme of establishment of one million Domestic Economic Units known as the ‘Divi Neguma’ was initiated under the guidance of Ministry of Economic Development as the prioritized economic development programme of the Sri Lankan government.
Special committees were formed at village, regional and district level to implement and coordinate activities of the above
programme.  Coordination and monitoring are done through the combined activities of different ministries and government departments, In order to achieve the expected objectives.

Department of Agriculture has join hand with the above programme to make this event a success.
